Bright Hope is a Christian international relief and development organization dedicated to bringing Hope to those who live on less than $2 a day. Job Summary: The Accounting Associate is a part time position (20-30 hours/week) and acts as the hub for all accounting and financial activity at Bright Hope, which drives our team’s ability to bring Hope to the extreme poor. It is responsible for basic accounting and bookkeeping and processing payroll, and provides accounting and finance support to the CFO. The role has a dual reporting structure, reporting to the Vice President of Programs and CFO. Administrative duties will help round out the hours when not focused on the accounting functions.
The ideal candidate has an active, growing relationship with Jesus; is strong in GAAP accounting skills; has outstanding Quickbooks experience (including payroll processing); enjoys clerical and administrative tasks and thinks analytically; can work independently and collaboratively; solves problems; has attention to detail; and smiles often.
Job Responsibilities:
Supports CFO in various financial and accounting responsibilities
Accurately maintains QuickBooks, transfers funds, and runs reports
Records daily cash receipts
Monitors online bank activity
Prepares month end close by preparing journal entries and managing various asset and liability reconciliations
Reconciles credit card bank deposit activity to internal accounting records
Records all A/P transactions and ensures timely payment of all invoices; maintains vendor documentation files
Handles financial processing for wires/ACH transfers
Runs profit/loss statements, provides class balance reports and adjusts deficits if applicable
Prepares and presents reports to CFO or leadership team, such as cash flow and performance to budget
Supports CFO and leadership team during annual budget process with QuickBooks updates and reporting
Manages W-2 and 1099 documentation; Generates week payroll on time and accurately and tracks vacation balances
Represents Bright Hope to financial auditors; prepares accounting and financial documentation for annual audit
Provides documentation for the 990 and ensures it is filed on time
Manages annual renewals for various financial associations
Responds to staff inquiries regarding accounting activities
Exercises independent judgment and thought over resolution of non-routine accounting problems
Initiates process improvements routinely
Administrative functions as time permits.
Education and Experience:
Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Four years of accounting experience; at least 2 in nonprofit accounting
Solid experience with QuickBooks and QuickBooks reporting
Solid technical accounting skills (GAAP)
Experience in payroll processing
