Advancement Researcher and Advisor


The advancement researcher and advisor is responsible for providing background on high quality prospects and equipping the development team to respond to actionable research. This position will also develop effective reporting and fundraising communications that educate, engage, and help raise funds. This person liaises between the operations, finance, and development teams to help manage the flow of content, information, and funds.


Promote and fulfill the mission and vision of HOPE International

Research on prospective donors

Identify, in partnership with grants team manager and director of development, a road map for implementing prospect research at HOPE; including identifying the resources needed to do adequate research, both in the US and internationally, and the processes and systems that allow for sustainable and effective collaboration with regional representatives.

Using identified sources and systems, research, organize, and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, connection to HOPE, and all other relevant information

Produce in-depth, concise reports on prospects based on a combination of data from CRM and prospect search engines (available financial records, real estate ownership, charitable giving (i.e. 990s for foundations), and other markers of high-quality donors)

Write actionable prospect briefings for president & CEO, chief advancement officer, director of development, and regional representatives

Implement new research techniques as they arise, in collaboration with development operations manager, working to design the best prospect research methodology for HOPEs approach to fundraising. Share best practices with grants team.

Work with other development staff to improve the organization’s fundraising strategies

May provide general support to development staff and work on special projects when called for, such as capital campaign

Execute monthly screenings of new constituents, in partnership with development operations manager, and manage the research and assigning of each new constituent to the appropriate rep or marketing list

Effective communications to educate, engage, and fundraise

Work with a team of regional representatives, finance, and operations to identify projects for funding, coordinate grant details and objectives, and design, execute, and edit compelling proposals by established deadlines

Track reporting requirements and write and edit high-quality narrative and financial reports throughout the year while also meeting other donor and rep needs as they arise

Maintain and clearly express the consistency of HOPE International’s Christ-centered identity, voice, and brand throughout communications

Collaborate with the finance team to allocate grant funds appropriately, tracking grant spending and remaining needs to facilitate smooth cash flow over the course of the fiscal year

Collect relevant content for use by the marketing and development teams via interviews, note-taking, information sharing, and research of current events, politics, and economic trends impacting HOPE’s programs. Develop and pursue ideas for new ways to gather content from the field

Occasional national or international travel may be required


Serve as trusted and valuable asset to the development team

Serve as a technical expert on HOPE’s financial needs, conduct research, and provide ongoing support to the development team as they raise funds and spread the message of HOPE’s work

Work one-on-one with at least three regional representatives to help develop strategy and deepen relationships in their regions



Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Proven ability to synthesize data, interpret information and communicate compelling and noteworthy information to co-workers in a simple and approachable way

Strong research, fact-checking, database, and analysis skills

Ability to work within and between departments, sometimes with competing goals

Strong organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization of multiple competing demands

Ability to manage projects with minimal oversight, make effective inquiries, identify relevant facts, and translate technical details into concise, understandable communications

Experience in a variety of written mediums, e.g., newsletters, appeals, websites, grant proposals or reports, brochures, press releases

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required

Ability to give and receive constructive criticism

Attention to detail

Understanding of Scriptural mandates concerning those living in poverty


Experience in relief and development, fundraising, and/or accounting

Foreign language skills (Spanish or French)

Familiarity with AP Style

Experience with CRM, prospecting software, and/or Adobe InDesign

International and cross-cultural experience

Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for Christ-centered microenterprise development
