The content & media writer is responsible for planning and producing clear and inviting communications that achieve marketing goals and raise HOPE’s brand awareness, with an emphasis on strategic content for external media outlets. Collaborating with the HOPE content team and various HOPE staff, this person will create content for HOPE and focus on developing, maintaining, and executing HOPE’s external media relations strategy. This person will also support social media and blog content coordination in collaboration with other content team members. Successful outcomes will be seen through excellent copywriting, content that converts audiences to desired actions, media coverage of HOPE’s mission and work, placement of HOPE staff as expert voices, and the development of relationships with media outlets.

Promote and fulfill the mission and vision of HOPE International.
Marketing and communications
Contribute to HOPE International’s communications as a copy writer, editor, interviewer, and content collector as needed to help execute compelling publications with on-time delivery.
Write and edit communication pieces that include: e-newsletters, brochures, blog articles, emails, press releases, website copy, social media content, video scripting, mailings, annual reports, and other promotional material.
Research, coordinate, and create relevant content for HOPE’s blog and website to support marketing strategies and help meet team goals.
Ensure accuracy, clarity, and integrity in communications through thorough research of verifiable sources and strict attention to detail.
Collaborate with other HOPE marketing strategists to write content that engages and converts audiences to meet team goals.
Maintain the consistency of HOPE International’s voice and brand throughout communications by following established guidelines.
Inspire HOPE supporters’ understanding and sense of connection with those HOPE serves, while ensuring all stakeholders are portrayed with dignity and respect.
Contribute to broader marketing team initiatives, including event support, research, and reporting functions, when necessary.
Advance HOPE’s story and enhance the reputation and awareness of its work, stakeholders, industry excellence, and thought leadership through proactive and opportunistic media outreach and engagements, including print, broadcast and online media.
Execute HOPE’s media relations strategy and help to develop it in the future while cultivating and leveraging media relationships and contacts within strategic media outlets.
Create content for press releases, articles, FAQs, talking points, and media relations kits to promote HOPE’s work and mission.
Be a point-person for media inquiries and requests. Provide support and prep for media interviews and engagement.
Monitor, analyze, and communicate media relations results on a regular basis.
Maintain a keen understanding of media and industry trends and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them.
Additional content coordination
Collaborate with content team members to schedule and create content for social media platforms, as well as the HOPE International blog and website.
Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International.
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
Minimum two years’ experience in marketing, media relations, or communications.
Attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to understand and articulate complex and sensitive issues.
Experience in a wide variety of written mediums, including articles, newsletters, appeals, websites, blogs, social media, professional reports, brochures, video scripting, press releases.
Knowledge and understanding of media relations strategies and development. Experience with content marketing a plus.
Pro-active journalistic instincts and drive in pitching HOPE stories to media outlets.
Able to communicate with tact, professionalism, and cross-cultural sensitivity on short notice.
Ability to establish priorities and negotiate competing deadlines with composure.
Able to give and receive constructive criticism.
Able to analyze and improve processes for information collection and sharing.
Understanding of Scriptural mandates concerning poverty.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with AP Style preferred.
Familiarity with SEO principles, including keyword research and Google Analytics preferred.
Familiarity with basic knowledge of HTML editing preferred.
Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
Foreign language ability in French, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Kinyarwanda preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for Christ-centered microenterprise development preferred.
