Executive Editor

Ministry Function:
The Executive Editor supports the ministry at Convoy of Hope by working with Convoy leadership to create the editorial vision for the organization.  This individual communicates the goals of the organization to the editors and writers and directly supervises the editorial team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Responsible to work with executive business, marketing, development and network leaders to maintain the editorial direction of the organization.
– Develops, with executive leadership, the editorial vision and communicates that to appropriate internal audiences.
– Assures the delivery of quality content for specific modalities, audiences, and circulation that accurately represents Convoy of Hope.
– Provides day-to-day management of the publications within the organization and coordinates with any external producers to assure continuity and quality of written products.
– Responsible to develop, review and finalize specific stories, angles and sources prior to publication.
– Shares expertise in sources of information, industry research, and  organizations to help shape direction of written content.
– Actively and intensely aware of all internal programs of Convoy of Hope and is actively involved in the community and industry – demonstrating the ability to stay on top of news and opinions in the changing external landscape.
– Assures articles, manuals, proposals and other publications meet style, formatting and quality standards.
– Examines and approves final physical proofs of printed materials.
– Works collaboratively with Chief Communications Officer and Communications leaders to assure a cohesive Communications plan that is well-supported by the editorial team.
– Is a member of the Convoy of Hope’s Publications Committee.
– All other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or related field required.
– 10+ years experience in editing and publishing.
– 3+ years supervisory experience.
– Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
– Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
– Ensure all assigned copy adheres closely to brand and voice style guidelines.
– Proficient with text management and desktop publishing software.
– Proficient with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat or similar software.
– Thorough understanding of digital publishing, content management and social media platforms.
– Serve as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.
– Ability to positively represent the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
– As a Christian organization, Convoy of Hope believes it is critical that each staff member embraces the organization’s religious purposes for which it exists and not only agrees with its Statement of Faith but demonstrates it in their lives on an ongoing basis.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Supervises editors and writers as assigned by the Chief Communications Officer.
