Transformative Justice Coordinator

Training, Coordination, and Recruitment of Volunteers: 30%
Communicate awareness to developed models of conflict resolution, examples, implicit bias, circles, and the mediation process. Assist in training, public awareness and outreach in the central valley and throughout the region on Restorative Justice Practices.
Recruit, train, and support mediators in schools including teachers, administrators, elementary students, university students, and parents

Collaborate with MCC West Coast and MCC Justice Projects Network 10% –
Participate in bi-weekly meetings with all West Coast MCC staff, annual staff retreats, and semi-annual board meetings as scheduled
Participate in meetings and projects with other MCC Justice Projects staff in and outside of the West Coast Region

Relationship and Capacity Building in Schools: 35%
-Travel primarily in the Central Valley building relationships with schools, universities, law enforcement, organizations, churches and community leaders
-Maintain weekly contacts with key educational stakeholders

Inter-Agency Collaboration: 25%
Collaborate with local/regional universities (interns, research, etc.)
Organize presentations and community outreach to churches, non-profits, and other relevant organizations and recruit possible volunteer mediators and providing skills on resolving conflicts and building healthy relationships
Participate in multi-agency collaborative groups and coalitions on RJ and related issues

Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis

Job Synopsis

The Transformative Justice Coordinator is responsible for managing the growth and expansion of West Coast Mennonite Central Committee’s (WCMCC) transformative justice initiative. The work will be in collaboration with various school districts, and create partnerships with universities, and nonprofit, churches, faith-based community organizations in the Central Valley of California. The Coordinator will use restorative principles to help address school discipline issues and decrease the ‘school to prison pipeline’. The Coordinator will work to provide the necessary training to schools and other community partners for the implementation of local restorative justice programs. The Coordinator will also lead outreach efforts to local churches, non-profits, schools, universities, to connect mediators with needs and enroll partners in the work of restorative justice. The Coordinator will assist the Director in enhancing the work of restorative justice throughout the MCC West Coast Region. here.
