New York City is the largest city in the US and one of the most influential and global cities in the world. The city is fast paced and extremely diverse, has extremes of wealth and poverty, and is packed with cultural and multicultural riches and challenges.

The UN in New York is a complex institutional world of 193 member countries, 6,000 UN staff, and nearly 5,000 NGOs engaging the UN. The UN has set global standards in areas such as human rights, climate change, gender equality, and humanitarian engagement. At the same time, the UN system is often hampered by bureaucracy as well as battles between superpowers and divisions between national interests. Advocacy work and witness is challenging and complex and positive results are not often immediately evident. Yet New York City and the UN provide MCC an exceptional platform as a global ministry to engage critical global challenges with the global church.
