The Need
For 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking a Vice President, Controller of Accounting & Assurance to serve as a strategic voice, collaborating across the entire IJM global leadership team to ensure development of agile financial policies and procedures that provide the foundation for long-range strategic and efficient operational growth.
The preferred location for this position is Washington, DC area however we will consider remote candidates. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Responsibilities:
Lead the global finance team in preparation of timely and accurate financial statements that reflect the totality of IJM global operations (including international advancement offices) by the 11th business day of each month. Communicate financial results to IJM’s Board of Directors and Global Leadership team along with analysis that highlights key risks, opportunities, and trends by the 14th business day.
Develop financial policies and procedures that ensure strong internal controls and provide clear financial guidelines to empower IJM leaders to operate. Ensure all managers are properly trained on financial policies and procedures and rigorously monitor compliance.
Recruit, retain and develop a team of more than 80 staff across the organization and around the world that support financial accounting and operations.
Champion the strategic development of financial systems that ensure strong internal controls, accurate financial reporting and strengthen IJM’s ability to support required grants accounting and compliance with restricted giving.
Requirements:
Minimum of 15 years’ work experience in leading complex, growing international organizations in development of consolidated financial reporting and controls across multiple currencies and geographic regions.
A CPA and master’s degree in Accounting is required.
Proficiency in US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for Not-For Profit (NFP) organizations and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Needs to have prior financial policy and system knowledge and be able to champion adoption of a universal finance system across an international, non-profit organization.
Strong ability to understand IJM internal customers and a passion for making the financial policies and procedures as clear and simple as possible.
Prior grants accounting and compliance experience is strongly preferred.

*What is a statement of faith?
