Sophie Nasrallah. Communications Officer for Middle East Revive and Thrive (MERATH)
Sophie Nasrallah has served as Communications Officer for Middle East Revive and Thrive (MERATH) since 2017. MERATH, the humanitarian branch of Thimar-LSESD, partners with local faith-based organizations in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq to implement relief and development projects for vulnerable individuals and families. Before moving to Lebanon to work for MERATH, Sophie met her Lebanese now-husband, Wissam, at university in Paris. Both Sophie and Wissam lived and worked in France before deciding to move to Lebanon to work with Thimar-LSESD, where Wissam serves as Chief Operations Officer. Sophie holds a Master’s degree in Public Affairs and Administration from SciencesPo, Paris. She and Wissam have two children, a girl and a boy, ages 8 and 5.
Claudia Topciu of Proveritas Academy in Romania
Claudia Topciu gave her life to Christ at the age of 16 and has served the church in different ways since then, initially in proclaiming the gospel in villages around Galati, Romania. Claudia is a lawyer by profession, having earned her law degree in 2008. In 2022 the Lord called her to coordinate a refugee center for the influx of Ukrainians fleeing violence in their home country. Claudia also coordinates a school for Ukrainian children.
Dr. Daniel Carroll Rodas
Dr. Carroll is half-Guatemalan and was raised bilingual and bicultural. In his youth, he spent many summers in Guatemala and later taught at an interdenominational seminary in Guatemala City for thirteen years. The realities of Central America sparked Dr. Carroll's fascination with the Old Testament and ethics. Before coming to Wheaton, Dr. Carroll taught at Denver Seminary for many years and founded a Spanish-language lay training program there. He has attended and been involved in Latino/a churches and teaching and publishing on the Bible and immigration for many years. One of his recent books on this topic is The Bible and Borders: Hearing God’s Word om Immigration. An upcoming book co-written with two other Latino/a scholars is Reading the Bible Latinamente: Interpretation for the Latino/a Church.
